Description:

Tired of reading HTML books that only make sense after you're an expert? Then it's about time you picked up Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML and really learned HTML. You want to learn HTML so you can finally create those web pages you've always wanted, so you can communicate more effectively with friends, family, fans, and fanatic customers. You also want to do it right so you can actually maintain and expand your Web pages over time, and so your web pages work in all the browsers and mobile devices out there. Oh, and if you've never heard of CSS, that's okay--we won't tell anyone you're still partying like it's 1999--but if you're going to create Web pages in the 21st century then you'll want to know and understand CSS.

Learn the real secrets of creating Web pages, and why everything your boss told you about HTML tables is probably wrong (and what to do instead). Most importantly, hold your own with your co-worker (and impress cocktail party guests) when he casually mentions how his HTML is now strict, and his CSS is in an external style sheet.

With Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML, you'll avoid the embarrassment of thinking web-safe colors still matter, and the foolishness of slipping a font tag into your pages. Best of all, you'll learn HTML and CSS in a way that won't put you to sleep. If you've read a Head First book, you know what to expect: a visually-rich format designed for the way your brain works. Using the latest research in neurobiology, cognitive science, and learning theory, this book will load HTML, CSS, and XHTML into your brain in a way that sticks.

So what are you waiting for? Leave those other dusty books behind and come join us in Webville. Your tour is about to begin.

5Wonderful first HTML/CSS book!Nov 13, 2009
I'm a C/Java coder who's been getting into web designing as a hobby. I have to say, the approach the Head First folks took with this book seemed a little unconventional at first, but after I'd devoured the first 200 pages and hardly felt like I was breaking a mental sweat I realized: it works! The authors are thorough, accurate, and enjoyable to read, and the material builds a great and easy-to-understand foundation before it takes you right into the realm of building valid XHTML. I'm a little old to relate to all the "hipsters" featured as characters in the book, but they do make the material that much more engaging, and add an element of fun to the projects. Those projects are non-trivial, and result in your learning to code some pretty nice web pages--and the authors do a fine job of presenting alternate methods to achieve similar results and are honest about the shortcomings of each.

I highly recommend this as your first book on programming HTML/CSS! I've ordered the Head First Javascript and PHP volumes for my further learning experiences.

5Excellent BookNov 08, 2009
What a brilliant way to teach complex concepts! When I started reading this book I knew very little about HTML and CSS, only a few bits I picked up from a programmer who worked for me for a lot of weekly cash. By the time I've finished reading the book, my former programmer was paying me for consulting him on HTML and CSS! True story. This book proved to be a great monetary and intellectual investment.

5Great Book for learning HTML and CSSNov 02, 2009
I am using this book for my 2nd class in a row in learning HTML and CSS in a Junior College class. The book is written in such a form that it is easy reading, complete with exercises to use. This is a great book to have to learn HTML & CSS from the hands on exercises.

5I love this book.Oct 22, 2009
This book does a good job of entertaining while teaching a dry subject. The authors really put effort into holding your attention and interest. I would recommend it to anyone trying to learn the web.

5Awesome tutorialOct 14, 2009
Eric & Elisabeth Freeman are terrific authors! I learned more relevant and up-to-date techniques from this book than I did from taking an HTML class at my community college. HeadFirst HTML with CSS & XHTML is written in a logical order that is very clear and easy to follow, with many checkpoints along the way to make sure you don't get too far off track. They don't just spew data at you; they explain things and give you exercises that help you remember the information. Even at over 650 pages I was able to breeze through it in about a week. I would not suggest getting HeadFirst PHP & MySQL however, as the authors of that book aren't anywhere near as good as Eric & Elisabeth.
